Moe Harukawa Cause of Death:Authorities in Tokyo have confirmed new details in the tragic death of Moe Harukawa, a 21-year-old store clerk who was fatally attacked at a popular retail location. The suspect, identified as Taiki Hirokawa, 26, was reportedly a former boyfriend with a history of stalking and prior arrests connected to the victim.

The incident occurred on the evening of March 26 at the Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo, located within the Sunshine City complex in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to an emergency call at approximately 7:15 p.m. reporting a man with a knife inside the store.

Surveillance footage later revealed that Hirokawa entered the store, moved behind the counter, and attacked Harukawa with a knife. He then turned the weapon on himself. Both individuals sustained multiple stab wounds, particularly to the neck area, and were pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Investigators disclosed that Hirokawa and Harukawa had previously been in a relationship from October 2024 until July 2025. Following their separation, Harukawa reported ongoing harassment. On December 25, 2025, she contacted police to report stalking behavior, leading to Hirokawa’s arrest for violating anti-stalking laws. He was later rearrested in January for secretly photographing her and for possession of a knife, resulting in additional charges.

Despite a restraining order issued on January 29, Hirokawa was released the following day after summary indictment. Police maintained periodic contact with Harukawa, who had temporarily relocated for safety but later reported no immediate concerns.

Officials have stated that appropriate measures were taken based on available legal frameworks, though the incident has raised renewed concerns about the effectiveness of protections for stalking victims.

The devastating event has left the community in mourning and sparked broader discussions about public safety and intervention systems. Investigations remain ongoing as authorities review the circumstances surrounding both the attack and prior actions taken.
